Dral-den (Ladakhi) - name for this heritage textile

This carpet is made from hand-spun sheep wool yarn. It is woven in the traditional Changthang style, on a portable backstrap loom characteristic for the nomadic communities. This type of carpet is called "Dral Den" and traditionally used as a thin mattress in the yak hair tent. It is a flat weave and approximately 4mm thick. The carpet consists of 3 panels. After weaving, they are stitched together. The carpet is 60cm x 250cm, so a nice size for a runner.
It is spun and woven by our team of settled nomads close to the city of Leh.

Our carpets are made to order so please allow 2-4 weeks for your carpet to be sent to you.
