pherri (Ladakhi) - name for this heritage textile

This carpet is made from hand-spun sheep wool yarn. It is woven in the traditional Changthang style, on a portable backstrap loom characteristic for the nomadic communities. This type of carpet is called "Pherri" and traditionally used as a blanket. It is a flat weave and approximately 7mm thick. The carpet consists of 6 panels. After weaving, they are stitched together. The yarn is a blend of different shades of sheep wool and each piece will be unique.
It is spun and woven by our team of settled nomads close to the city of Leh.
