Scarf Tamul

tamul (Assamese) - betel

This scarf is hand-spun and hand-woven by our team in Assam. The silk is called eri silk and cultivated by Assamese tribal communities South West of Guwahati. It is a wild silk and the moth leaves a hole in the cocoon as it has to be empty before it can be processed. Therefore it has a structure which is rather similar to linen. It is naturally dyed with areca nut which is locally chewed on a daily basis together with betel leafs as a light stimulant. It leaves a red color on the lips.
      • 100% eri silk from Assam
      • 40cm x 180cm // 70cm x 200cm
