This carpet is made from hand-spun sheep wool yarn. It is woven in the traditional Changthang style, on a portable backstrap loom characteristic for the nomadic communities. This type of carpet is called "Challi" and traditionally used as an outside blanket to dry barley on. It is a flat weave and approximately 4mm thick.
The design is created using naturally dyed yarn which depicts luk-mik so "sheep's eye" and resso - "goat teeth".
It is spun and woven by our team of settled nomads close to the city of Leh.

Our carpets are made to order so please allow 4-6 weeks for your carpet to be sent to you. The carpet in this image is 155cm x 210cm so depending on your chosen size the design proportions will vary slightly.
