yak (Ladakhi) - yak

This scarf is made from the soft yak wool, woven with its three undyed shades. On the Changthang Plateau, the majority of the yaks is dark brown, a small amount is beige and very rare are white yaks.
In this scarf the population of yaks is represented - 80% dark brown yaks, 15% beige yaks and 5% white yaks.
It is hand-spun and hand-woven by our team member Vishwanath in Himachal Pradesh. It is woven with soft yak wool from our nomadic team in Changthang in Ladakh. Yak wool keeps extremely warm and is very soft. It comes from the down of the yak, the layer closest to a yak's body called khullu. The fiber is taken by hand in the months of June and July. This scarf is undyed as we want to show the beauty of the yak wool from Ladakh and the fine weaving skill of Vishwanath.
