halodi (Assamese) - turmeric

This scarf is hand-spun and hand-woven by our team in Assam.

This scarf of which we only have one piece available is slightly paler on the side it was folded, so approximately 1/20 of the scarf are a bit paler in total. Besides that, the weave and quality is the same as our usual scarves. Please refer to the second image to get an idea.

The silk is called eri silk and cultivated by Assamese tribal communities South West of Guwahati. It is a wild silk and the moth leaves a hole in the cocoon as it has to be empty before it can be processed. Therefore it has a structure which is rather similar to linen.

      • 100% eri silk from Assam
      • 40cm x 180cm // 70cm x 200cm
      • windproof and very robust fabric, ideal for any season
      • natural dyes with Assamese turmeric
      • farming: 45 days
      • spinning: 2 days

Please note: This product is entirely made by hand. Therefore, irregularities in thickness of yarn are characteristic to the craft of handspinning.
